Inspired Shopping

May 9, 2008

Today  while in serious search of a cute, classy, unbearably sexy sundress (do they make those?) for Marshall’s graduation (less than a week!) I ran across some packaging that made me stop in my tracks.  I am not an Old Navy regular, but after Anthropologie, Saks, F21, Nordstrom’s, Banana Republic, BCBG and the old faithful TJ MAXX served up a whole lotta nothin’ of what I was looking for, I figured I would run into Old Navy and give them a try.  To my dissatisfaction, they too, had nothing of what I was looking for(other than some surprisingly cute bikinis/cover ups), however they did have some things I was not looking for.  They had a wall of jewelry that was as close to fantastic as $9.50 jewelry can get, all packaged with images of various photographs of Hawaii.  Ohhh, Old Navy how COULD you remind me of my first travel love right now?  The packaging was the typical jewelry get-up, but each photograph was rich and colorful with palm trees silhouetted against dark turquoise skies and details of white stucco homes with Mediterranean style landscaping.  Ugh, I loved it.  So much, in fact, that not only did it remind me how much I used to want to move to Hawaii for another, more long term ”adventure”, but it also inspired some photographs (not yet taken).  Not to mention it made me practically buy up the whole rack of jewelry, more of what they were going for in their marketing, I’m sure.  Whatever the case may be, it worked like a charm.  So I may not have a graduation dress just yet (I’m thinking on some at BCBG), I have all the accessories for it :)   (I’ll include a snapshot of the packaging later)

I’m a sucker for package design goodness:  TheDieline

(Clearly I don’t do this sorta stuff, but I have a strong appreciation for it, as goes for all aspects of designzzzz, so props to the peeps who do! (meaning some of my favorite friends :)   )).
