Rough Week for the Queen City

Talk ran rampade this morning at work as news spread of the buy out of Wachovia by Citigroup.  How will this effect North Carolina, and particulary us, the second leading banking city?  Here’s what is being speculated.  It’s already put the fear of God in a lot of local’s, especially people who lost their jobs early this morning and have already starting putting million dollar condos up for sale.  I think we will be just fine.  Why would anyone want to move Wachovia headquarters from Charlotte?  It’s too much of a pain in the ass, in my opinion.  It will, unfortunately, be rough for some, but that’s business.  I’m confident it won’t have a drastic impact on the Q.C., our economy has made it strong thus far, considering the status of the rest of the country!  It’s days like this that make me realize how lucky I am to have the trade skills I do….and also shows me the importance of SAVING!  I am compassionate to all of those employees that will loose their retirement.

In other news, gas is suspected to be back to normal by Wednesday.  More stations are carrying gas and already lines are shorter around town.  Damn hurricane!

Gone greeeeenie

I think I need these reusable shopping bags by envirosax for my trips to Aldi!  I can get rid of the crumpled paper bags under my seat & stash these in my car!

A job with benefits

So whenever anyone has asked me about my job lately, they have always asked two things: “are you still with creative loafing?” And “do you get benefits?”
The answer to both of those is yes, and as far as I am concerned, having an Apple employee to come in to fix your computer and install Leopard on your laptop-’fo free, is one HELL of a benefit. :) . Other than the gas thing (which we are still working on) it was a great day

Marshall is in line paying for gas as the sole gas employee is yelling at people through the little window to “only pay when you get to the pump!” And screaming some half ass spanish to an irrate customer. Le sigh. Where are those burgers and my pups when I need them? With Leopard at home to play with, I just can’t wait!

Ridin’ on “E”

I am currently in my second gas line of the night. There is no gas in Charlotte, Rock Hill, Hickory, or areas of South Carolina or Georgia at the time being. WTF?!? Marshall and I drove down to South Carolina in hopes of finding some, and after calling a trillion stations, sat at one for and hour and a half, second in line and watched the gas truck leave, only to find out the employees had no idea how to get it back up and running and won’t be selling gas ’till the morning. So we heard on the radio about gas on Sugarcreek road and trucked it up 85, praying we didn’t run out…and damnit, here we are. Three hours into the ordeal and waiting in the line god knows how many cars and police escorts, tired and hungry and yelling at each other for dumb shit, trying to get gas. Gahhhh. What the heck is the deal?? So many cars are on the side of the road, outta gas. Damn hurricanes! The “I need a gas station” (Marshall’s remake of Rhiana’s “take a bow” into a song about gas is funnier) parody on Power 98 has added immense humour to the situation and cleared our heads. We have, of course, found ways to occupy ourselves while waiting. ;) . Wuaka wuaka. :p

There are burgers at my house waiting to be grilled! Welp, there goes my night of nothingness planned! I don’t watch the news, so anyone know when relief is on the way? Tomorrow, I hope!

exposed!

I really am loving working my new job, the clients, the set up, the showroom, the AWESOME vendors, and becoming familiar with manufacturers and products I have never knew existed, like my one of my new favorites, Shine

Here are a few things I am love from their site, not necessarily together :)  Wish I had of put my job position where I get things “at cost” to good use & had waited to buy my media cabinet from Ikea–I would have rather paid some extra moolah for this great piece of real furniture!  It’s okay, I love what I have, I just love this a weee bit more :)

(And if you couldn’t already tell, I am totally into upholstering traditional style chairs in fun, bold prints right now)

So this is what I have been missing? Lucky me (not!)

For a girl who hasn’t had a job that required early morning work in, say, a long while, waking up to work out, eat, shower, walk the dogs & be out the door is ughh

I am so happy with my job thus far (and am eager to get past the training/learning how the company works and am excited to get my own clients) but holy long 9 to 5 days!  :)  It’s okay though, the firm is right around the corner

This will take just a smidgen of getting used to, along with packing my photography sessions in in my spare time!  Eeek!

::Pause

So even though progress on my apartment has really come along, I am deciding to potentially take a slight pause on purchasing a few items, in leiu of the fact that I can get some great, quality, real furniture that is awesome as hell & very inexpensive through work instead of everyone has the same thing junky Ikea furniture

I may still buy the Ikea vanity (& make it a desk) that I was considering, just because I want some instant gratification, but I’m not sure just yet

Just another perk of my new awesome job–I love the design work there, yay

A few things I spied online a while back and then saw in store at Target & had to snag up before they were all gone (designs by John Derian for Target):

The alphabet tray (that I loveeee love love love) is in my bedroom with my perfume on it, etc and the two prints are side  by side in my bathroom.  I wanted to get some unique, handmade pieces of work for the bathroom, but I saw these and am a big fan of John Derian so their vintage appeal had to come home with me :)

An undecided designer

I guess it’s already been “decided” for me? Welp, okay

(Really, I already had my mind made up)
